Tuesday Training Night Routine

  • Tuesday’s are from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and this is a mandatory part of our program. Most training nights will be at Maplehurst Middle School.

  • There will also be other activities happening in and around the Moncton area. For these activities, parents will be required to drive their cadet to and from the location and will normally be asked to stay and supervise their cadet during their shift. Cadet shifts are normally 2 hours at a time and we will notify you by email of when and where these activities are.

  • Other mandatory events we normally have are the Poppy Campaign, Remembrance Day Parade, Santa Clause Parades and Fundraising activities. As stated above we will require parents to supervise their cadet’s during most activities.

  • Most of these kinds of activities are done on weekends.

Thursday Nights (Optional)

  • Every other Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm we have Drill Team Practice at Hillcrest School

  • These are optional activities

Sundays (Optional)

  • The 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month is Marksmanship

    • Only cadet that have completed the range safety training can shoot on the range

Cadet Attendance Rules

  • If we see a cadet being dropped off and an adult (18+) is not present with the cadet, we will call you to come pick up your cadet. This applies even if you live within walking distance of the activity. No exceptions.

  • Parents must enter the building to drop off and pick up their cadet.

  • An adult (18+) must sign in all cadets they bring on Tuesday nights. If you do not sign the cadets in, it will be marked as an unexcused absence.

  • If a cadet has below a 60% attendance for mandatory Tuesday nights and have any unexcused absences for any activities, they cannot attend any optional cadet activities. This includes, but is not limited to, activities such as Band, Marksmanship, Camps, Corps Parties, Corps Dinners, Other Outings, Etc.

  • Those cadets of parents that do not communicate about being absent will have their cadet marked as unexcused. When this happens, the cadet may not be able to participate in other activities outside of our mandatory Tuesday nights.

  • If cadets are going to be late for any active other than Mandatory Tuesday Night Training, please return home. If you bring your cadet late to these activities you will be told to take them home. No exceptions.

  • If cadets have been causing issues during cadet activities, are constantly late, or don’t show up to activities after they have been confirmed for the activities, they may be restricted from attending certain cadet activities or all optional cadet activities in the future.

  • Please send an e-mail to nlcccodiac@navyleague.ca if your child will be absent from an activity. (Please have the date, name of the activity, and the cadet's full name in the email).

Our program

  • Unlike the older cadet programs, our program has no funding. We are 100% funded by sponsors, grants and other fundraising activities.

  • We are also run 100% by dedicated volunteers.

Emails

  • Communication is an essential part of our program. If your cadet cannot make it to a cadet activity please let us know, by emailing us at nlcccodiac@navyleague.ca. We need to know if your cadet will be there as they may be assigned a special job.

  • When you email please use your child’s last name, then first name. For example Harris, Ian.

  • If you are not seeing any of the emails that I send out or think you are missing some, please check your junk folder, as sometimes they will go there.

  • We are not sure why this happens

  • Please always promptly respond to emails when we are asking if cadets are going to be at an event

  • This is so we can figure out cost and if we have enough cadets and staff to do the activity

  • This only applies to the emails that ask for confirmation and they will always have a dead line

  • Please respect and respond by that deadline

Allergies

  • So, you are all aware we follow the same guidelines as the schools when it comes to snacks during cadet activities, so for example; nothing containing nuts will be allowed. This is to help ensure the safety of all Codiac staff and cadets. No Snacks are needed for cadet activities unless otherwise told.

Basic Information for Cadets

  • Listen to all staff, show respect and do as your told

  • This includes the Cadet Volunteers

  • When formed up, pretend your feet are stuck to the floor

  • You can still wiggle your toes just not move your lift your feet unless told to do so

  • When giving a drill order, such as attention or stand at ease, you must stay in the position until told to move

  • Do not talk when formed up

  • The only cadets speaking should be the lead cadets

  • You saw that when we formed up before the lessons tonight

  • All cadets are all to show respect to all staff and other cadets at all times.

  • Be kind, speak nicely and use the Chain of Command

  • Absolutely no arguing with staff or other cadets

  • If you have a problem you follow the Chain of Command as you will learn

  • As you saw before you all form up in groups called “Divisions”

  • Each division has a DPO (That’s the cadet at the front of that group)

    • Each division has a 2IC (2nd in command)

  • The DPO is who you talk to first if you have a problem

  • If the DPO can’t help, then they will take you to the next person in the chain of command or ask them and get back to you

  • Absolutely no bulling or bad behavior of any kind will be tolerated

  • There’s a process we must follow for this type of thing or any behavioral problems

    • 1st you’ll will be spoken to by staff

    • 2nd the will talk with Cdr Harris

    • 3rd  you get a verbal warning and your parent must be here for the meeting

    • 4th  you get a written warning and your parent must be here for the meeting

    • When this happens there will be consequences such as possibly not being able to attend optional activities or being demoted or released from our cadet group (Keep in mind that these are just examples of what can happen)

    • It really depends on what you did (The adult staff will make these decisions)

  • No touching or physical contact with of any kind is allowed with other cadets or staff while at a cadet activities

  • You are however allowed to high five or fist pump

  • Respect other cadets and staffs body autonomy and personal space
