Officer of the Day Responsibilities (OOD)

As per the Commanding Officers Standing Orders, these are the responsibilities of the OOD (This will always be a screened adult):

Officer of the Day (OOD)

Selected on a rotational basis. The OOD is responsible to the XO for the following:

        1. Ensuring the Petty Officer of the Day (POOD) fulfills his/her responsibilities (This is only if we have this position)

        2. Completing rounds of the building during the Stand Easy (Break) area and at the end of the night, accompanied by the POOD to verify that the cleaning stations have been completed (This is done only if we have cleaning stations, but rounds will be done in the hallway and of the bathrooms (Gangway and Heads) during break and at the end of the night)

        3. After rounds signing the Ship’s Log stating completion (Not required at his time)

For activities in which no OOD has been appointed, the highest ranking officer performs the functions of the OOD.

Also, the OOD will:

  1. Complete the ships log each night

    • Put how things went during the activity (Such as, how’d the cadets do, how’d staff do, etc.)

    • Put if there were any issues with cadets or staff

    • Keep it simple

  2. A chosen cadet will call 10 names for attendance, assisted by the OOD

    • All 10 marked cadet names must be called

    • You only need to put a check in the boxes “In (There) or Out (Not There)”

    • Finish by asking if there were any names not called

  3. Check off which staff are at the activity on the staff attendance sheet
